When you first feel a cold or flu coming, YEP tea is a great way to ward it off.
YEP stands for Yarrow, Elderflower and Peppermint and has been used for century’s.
Yarrow has a heating component to it, thus helping to reduce fever. It also has an affinity for mucous membranes thereby helping with mucous.
Elderflowers also help to clear mucous, reduce fever and boost the immune system .
Peppermint helps to clear the airways and increase circulation. It also helps to promote sweating thereby reducing fevers.
Ingredients and Method:
1 teaspoon dried or 2 teaspoons of fresh elderflower
1 teaspoon dried or 2 teaspoons of fresh yarrow
1 teaspoon dried or 2 teaspoons of fresh peppermint
Place herbs in a pot and pour boiling water over them. Cover and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Allow to cool enough to drink. You can add honey or lemon juice if you wish.
When drinking this it is best to sip slowly and keep warm. It may warm you up but that is to break the fever. This works really well. Not suitable for children or pregnant women.
If you are wondering where to buy these herbs, in Australia most good health food stores will stock them. I find the brand Southern Light Herbs to be of optimal quality. They are organic and mostly grown in Victoria.
